In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new bakery in town and it’s been set up in such a way that it brings a taste of village life to our very own Reading. Meet Wolseley St. Bakery.

Davy Bonte is the brains behind the operation and has over 20 years’ experience in the catering industry, having trained at Fortnum & Mason and held numerous prestigious roles since, including that of Head Chef at Forbury’s Restaurant.

As a French person living inReading, Davy realised that it was difficult to buy really good, freshly baked products and decided to following his passion by filling that gap. Based in his home on Wolseley St., Davy bakes a selection of breads, pastries and cakes to order. This includes favourites such as pain au chocolat, croissants and baguettes alongside lesser known products such as canelés – sweet French pastries typically found in and around Bordeaux.

All of Davy’s products are made with real ingredients and no preservatives, plus the prices are very realistic too. IR picked up a couple of pain au chocolat on Christmas morning and they were scrummy and right on the price point you’d find in many supermarkets.

As Wolseley St. Bakery is based out of Davy’s home, if you want to satisfy your tastebuds with some of his baked goods, one of the easiest ways to do it is to place and advance order via FB Messenger and collect it from his house. Orders are available for collection Thursday-Saturday 7-10am each week and you can pay by cash or card.

You’ll also find frequent pop-ups; if you’ve not spotted him down at the Broad St. Mall yet, look out for him on the weekends, including this weekend and next! Davy also appears at the Castle Tap; the next pop-up at the Castle Tap is a week today, on 30th January. Beware, he sold out last time he was at the Castle Tap so you’ll want to head down their early; it starts at 5.30pm. Find out more here.
